Before You Apply

Who can apply, and what it actually costs.

Grades Served

Grades 10, 11 & 12.

YSA is a three-year program for Alberta high school students. All Dash-one core courses are available, plus Dash-two pathways — so post-secondary doors stay wide open.

Enrollment Priority

Prairie Rose students first.

Priority is given to students from within Prairie Rose Public Schools. Out-of-division students are welcome — just note that you’ll need to transfer into Prairie Rose Public Schools to attend.

Costs

Depends on your situation.

Costs vary depending on a student’s home school district, residency, and individual situation. We aim to keep costs minimal — reach out to learn what attending YSA could look like for you.

Common Questions

Quick answers about applying.

For broader school facts — grades, location, programs, opening date — see the full quick-reference sheet.

  • No. Many YSA students arrive from urban and suburban communities and discover their passion for agriculture here. All programs start with Fundamentals in Grade 10 and progress to Mastery and Application in Grade 12 — no prior farm experience needed.

  • Yes. Enrollment priority goes to students already in Prairie Rose Public Schools, but if there’s capacity, students from outside the division are welcome. The one practical step: out-of-division students will need to transfer into Prairie Rose Public Schools to attend.

  • Yes — the same diploma as any other Alberta high school. All required credit hours in Math, English, Science, and Social Studies are met through YSA’s agriculture-integrated curriculum, and the diploma is recognized by every Alberta post-secondary institution.

  • We aim to respond to every application as quickly as we can. Once your application is in, we’ll be in touch to set up a conversation — that’s when most of your questions get answered and we get to know you.

  • That’s normal — and totally fine. You don’t need to commit to a specific program path when you apply. The Grade 10 Foundation year exposes every student to all of YSA’s program areas, so you can specialize once you’ve had a real chance to see what each one is like. Browse the programs to get a feel for what’s on offer.
